introduction

Morguard, owner and operator of Centerpoint Mall, is beginning the Master Planning process to reimagine the existing shopping centre into a mixed-use, transit-oriented, complete community with residential, commercial, open space and community uses. This long-term redevelopment will align with the approved Yonge North Subway Extension and the City’s direction to steer future growth to areas which are well-served by transit to ensure healthy and complete communities.

An Official Plan Amendment (OPA) has been submitted to provide a high-level framework for redevelopment and will inform the City’s Secondary Plan for the area. Detailed planning will take place through subsequent processes once the OPA is approved.

This website will provide project information, updates and engagement opportunities throughout the City’s planning approvals process.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Morguard respectfully acknowledges that the Centerpoint Mall is within the territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, which is home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.

COMMUNITY CONTEXT

Centerpoint Mall is located in the Newtonbrook Neighbourhood of Toronto and encompasses 14.6 hectares (36.2 acres) of land, located at the southwest corner of the Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue West intersection.

Since the mid-2000’s, the Newtonbrook Neighbourhood has seen an increase in infill development, mainly along the North Yonge corridor with many other proposed or approved tall buildings underway further north.

Largely due to the planned Yonge North Subway Extension along Yonge Street to Richmond Hill, there are several high-density redevelopments proposed along the Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue corridors in each of Toronto, Vaughan and Markham.
